Westwood Cross VISSIM Modelling

A microsimulation model was developed for the central Westwood Cross area of Thanet with the use of VISSIM software on behalf of Kent County Council. The aim of the base model exercise was to provide an accurate modelling framework and representation of existing conditions against which to test network improvements and proposals, inclusive of a network relief scheme in the vicinity of the Tesco foodstore and an extension of Millennium Way linking to the latter; all in the eastern section of the study area.

The model included 26 junctions, 12 pedestrian crossings and a bus priority signal control in the dynamic assignment mode simulating the real-time behaviour of vehicles and pedestrians.

The Microsimulation model was developed, calibrated, and validated to reflect real-time traffic conditions and behaviours in the specified area, as presented in detail in the relevant Local Model Validation Report (LMVR).
